Harbhajan Singh Banned for 11 IPL matches
Harbhajan Singh has been found guilty of hitting S Sreesanth after the match between IPL Mumbai and IPL Mohali. Farukh Enguneer and Lalit Modi heard to both parties i.e. Harbhajan Singh and Sreesanth and decided against Harbhajan Singh. Harbhajan Singh is banned for 11 matches of IPL.
Harbhajan Singh was accompanied by Lalchand Rajput and Harsha Bhogle whereas Yuvraj Singh and Maxwell came to support Sreesanth. The hearing started at 1PM IST and lasted for 1:30 hours. It took 1 hour after the hearing for the decesion to be made.
Lalit Modi who addressed the press conference denied to talk about the details of the incident and answered the question related to the decision only. Hesaid, Harbhajan Singh was found guily of Level 4.2 offence as per the ICC code of conduct (IPL is following the ICC code of conduct for the tournament). He said, Lalchand Rajput, coach of Mumbai Indians, was also found guilty of Level 2 offence. Lalchand Rajput was found guily to be right behind Harbhajan Singh and didnt try to stop him which was against the spirit of the game. Lalchand Rajput has been penalised for 50% of his match fees. Lalit Modi said, the video evidences mad eit clear that Harbhajan’s actions were totally unprovoked.
Harbhajan Singh, now, wont be able to play in any league matches for IPL Mumbai team. Harbhajan didnt play the match on sunday because of the suspension. Mumbai Indians have played 4 out of 14 league matches in the tournament. Harbhajan can return to play in the Semi Final matches for Mumbai Indians (if Mumbai Indians make it to semi finals). It is highly unlikely though for Mumbai Indians to make it to semi finals. This decesion will deprive Harbhajan Singh of the money too. He wont be paid for the rest of the match. Amout is more than 2 crore INR.
Harbhajan Singh, for the first time, admitted his mistake publicly. He said, he has commited a mistake and he has been penalised for the same. He said, it wont be repeated in the future. He said, he(Harbhajan) and Sreesanth are like brothers and have played a lots of matches together and will play many more in future.
This is not the end of the story. BCCI have appointed Justice Nanavati to investigate into the matter. Nanavati have 15 days to submit his report. BCCi will make a decesion on the matter after getting the report. Chances are that Harbhajan wont get as big punishment as this one.
